October 10 - October 26, 2025
Opening Reception: Friday, October 10, 6-8 PM
Down Gallery is pleased to announce its inaugural exhibition, What a Wonderful World, on view from October 10 - October 26, 2025.
Through explorations in color, material, and performance, these artists present landscapes, portraits, and hybrid forms of meta-making. What a Wonderful World gathers a cohort of artists native to Prince George’s County, Maryland, emblematic of the creative force found within Black enclaves. These artists world-build through digital and physical realms, intervene in archival absences and canonical parameters, and document personal and familial experiences.
Grounded in a shared knowledge of tradition, aesthetic formalism, and social codes, these artists defy monolithic projections and their ontological constraints. The essence of this place shapes a worldview that is both deeply rooted and radically expansive. The resulting cultural capital emerges through diverse expressions and embodied sensorium.
Participating Artists: Lindsay Adams, Quinci Baker, Rush Baker IV, Larry W. Cook, E. Jane, Eric N. Mack, Jamaal Peterman, Sam Vernon, Sydney Vernon
